Koh Samui For Kids:
Parents all over the world know how difficult choosing a vacation destination for children can be. On the one hand, there should be a variety of benefits available, such as the sea, the sun, fresh air and a change of scene. On the other hand, all the inconveniences of leaving home should also be minimized.
With the development of tourism, more and more parents are bringing their children to Thailand and Koh Samui in both the summer and winter. It may safely be said that Samui is ideal for rest and relaxation with young kids. Parents who bring their little ones here have said, “Thailand is a paradise for children. A lot of sun, a wonderful sea, a huge choice of fresh fruit all year round and very friendly Thai people who adore kids! Would anybody want more?” Your children will love the upbeat and cheerful atmosphere of our island. If you decide to live in Thailand for a long period of time, there are plenty of modern villas to rent in Koh Samui as well as several nearby international schools which offer high quality English programs.
One issue of travelling to Thailand with small children is that the flight may be too long. If you choose a good airline though, you need not be afraid. Simply buy some new toys and bring along some cartoons, films and books. It is likely that your child will sleep during a considerable part of the flight anyway and time will quickly slip away.
Koh Samui also has a number of large supermarkets, like Tesco Lotus and Big C, where you can find a great deal of choice and very low prices on food and clothes, as well as playgrounds where your children can experience game machines, horse rides, little cars and planes, and exciting soft play mazes. Your kids will definitely love the colorful slides, ball pits, rope swings and bungee jumps.
We are sure that you do not want your children to be bored, which is good news since Thailand is a place where you can easily keep your kids entertained. The crystal clear sea and white beaches are certainly the best form of amusement for children and adults alike! These are not the only options available though, as the island offers so much for the visiting family.
Exotic animal shows, zoos, elephant rides, aquariums, aqua parks, real mountain farms, a butterfly garden and much more are waiting for you on Samui – all of which will leave some long-lasting, colorful memories. Below, you can find some of the main spots on the island which are suitable for children.
Namuang Safari Park
The highlights here are the elephant, crocodile, snake, monkey and bird shows which take place twice a day and last for half an hour. The price for all five shows is 750 baht for adults and 450 baht for children, while those under 3 years old can enter free of charge. Namuang Safari Park also offers elephant rides, a mini-zoo, quad bike courses and extreme ropeway descents over the jungle. Lastly, visitors can ascend to top of an 80-metre high waterfall (where you can bathe in cool mountain water). This walk is long and rather difficult though, so we do not recommend it to those with very small children. It is better to stay at the base of the falls and enjoy this cool, natural pool of water instead. There is also a second, smaller waterfall in which you can bathe. If you are hungry, there is a restaurant nearby where you can have a snack while looking out over some scenic mountain streams.
Paradise Park Farm
This unusual zoo/farm is located on Samui’s highest point from which you can admire breathtaking views of the sea and the nearby islands. Fauna from Thailand and other countries – including deer, goats, ostriches, parrots, toucans, peacocks, hedgehogs, rabbits, and monkeys – live in conditions that are close to their natural habitats. In the daytime, the animals at Paradise Park Farm are let out so you can get close and even feed them right from your hand. The lush, green park areas, excellent children's playground, and refreshing pool will leave everybody satisfied. The entrance fee is 300 baht and children under two years old can get in for free.
Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo
The name speaks for itself, promising exotic wildlife of all shapes and sizes. While at Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo, visitors can also enjoy a fantastic show with sea lions and birds. Entrance fee is 800 baht.
Samui Butterfly Garden
This is a tropical park where hundreds of butterflies live. Visitors can also come and see collections of local insects as well as several beehives. From the observation platform at Samui Butterfly Garden, you can get a wonderful view of the island’s coast. We recommend that you only visit with children who already can walk though, as it will be difficult to ascend the garden’s stairs while carrying a kid in your arms.
Coco Splash Waterpark
Even though this water complex has only been open in the Lamai area for a short period of time, it has already become very popular. The Coco Splash Waterpark features three slides: one is high and steep, the second is flatter and lower, and the third is perfect for toddlers. Swings, ladders, bungee jumps, a small pool and a Jacuzzi will keep your children busy, provided they are over one year old. Moreover, local staff and the park layout will ensure that your kids are safe. As an added bonus, parents can savor some tasty dishes from the local restaurant or have a Thai massage in the shady arbor while their children have fun splashing around.
